Identifying risk factors for vector borne disease infections and outbreaks including: malaria, dengue, Zika, leishmaniasis and many others.

The MENTOR Initiative is delighted to offer a comprehensive training course designed specifically to strengthen the capacity of agencies to implement effective and co-ordinated vector borne disease control activities, either as a focus or as part of broader disease control activities.

Participants will gain an understanding of the different types of diseases and prioritise key control measures in integrated vector management.

The five-day course is taught by a team of MENTOR staff and outside experts from the relevant teaching fields. It is designed to be highly participatory, with a problem-based approach to teaching and learning.

Throughout the workshop participants will be encouraged to actively take part and to share their experiences and lessons learned. Teaching methodologies used will include lectures, problem solving exercises, role playing and practical demonstrations including: clinical and confirmatory diagnosis as appropriate by Rapid Diagnostic Tests, case load screening and prevention methods

What you will learn
• To identify risk factors for vector borne disease infections and outbreaks and gain an understanding of the epidemiology of different types of diseases and prioritise key control measures.

• Understand the principles of vector borne disease control including, as appropriate, surveillance and monitoring, case management (diagnosis, treatment and patient care) and effective personal and community protection strategies.

• Be able to prepare and plan for effective priority interventions for the acute emergency context and modify programme approaches according to changes in the situation as the situation moves towards post emergency phase to reconstruction.

• Determine the most effective co-ordination of efforts with national and international partners to address the crises.

• Monitor and evaluate the impact of interventions.

• Identify operational and technical problems requiring field research.

• Identify and quantify project needs for proposal and budgeting development.
