    World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day – WHO online and in-person events

    The following events will be organized or hosted by WHO on the occasion of World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day 2024:

    Tuesday 30 January (World NTD Day): a virtual workshop convened by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Tropical Diseases, National Institute of Parasitic Diseases, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, on behalf of the network of WHO collaborating centres for NTDs, will discuss how to remove obstacles to the NTD road map in the post-COVID-19 scenario, and attain the 2030 targets.     Tuesday 30 January (World NTD Day): if you happen to be in New York City, you may wish to join the opening of an exhibit featuring photographers from six countries across Africa where NTDs are prevalent. The in-person event will take place at the United Nations Secretariat building from 18:00 to 20:30 EST, New York time. Please register here:

    Reframing neglect: a fine art and documentary photography exhibition on NTDs

    Please also be aware that an exhibition of metal panels dedicated to NTDs will take place in the mezzanine of WHO headquarters’ B building during the whole week of World NTD Day. A panel will be specifically dedicated to noma, which has been recently recognized by WHO as a neglected tropical disease.

    Wednesday 31 January: WHO will host the launch of the Global Appeal 2024 to end stigma and discrimination against persons affected by leprosy, led by the Sasakawa Leprosy (Hansen’s Disease) Initiative. The event will take place in the WHO Auditorium, in the presence of the WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Mr Yohei Sasakawa, WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Leprosy Elimination; it will be opened by a concert.
