    Job Summary

    The Senior Program Manager (SPM) for Vector Control and Surveillance will manage a highly collaborative and complex program of work as part of a three-year grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to strengthen entomological surveillance for data-driven vector control delivery in malaria endemic countries in sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, Central America, and Hispaniola. The SPM will manage remotely a team of entomologists who provide direct technical assistance and capacity strengthening to national malaria programs and partners.

    The Senior Program Manager will oversee and coordinate the deployment and adaptation of the MEI’s Entomological Surveillance Planning Tool (ESPT) and relevant trainings in 5-10 countries, the design and pilot implementation in three countries of a project to digitize the ESPT, and the development and pilots in two countries of an Entomological Adaptive Sampling Framework (EASF) to improve sampling for entomological surveillance in operational contexts.

    He/she also designs, develops, and disseminates standardized training materials, best practice reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and other communication and capacity building resources. They will responsible for managing portfolio workplans, timelines, results-tracking, and deliverables, as well as project contracts and budgets. This person will report to the MEI Director.

    Required Qualifications

    • Doctorate in related area and / or equivalent experience training                                        
    • Note: With BA/BS in a related area + 9 years of related work exp; With MA/MS in a related area + 7 years of related work exp, ETC
    • 5+ years directly related experience
    • Experience working in malaria-endemic countries and with ministries of health.
    • Academic and/or programmatic background and experience in malaria, vector control, and/or entomological surveillance.
    • Advanced knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices.
    • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
    • Advanced ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical, relational, and diplomatic skills.
    • Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
    • Advanced ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers, managers and partners.
    • Advanced project and program management, coordination, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, remote work environment across time zones.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Highly skilled fundraising experience.
    • Proficiency in qualitative data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
    • Proficiency in a language other than English in a work context (e.g. French, Spanish, Portuguese).
