    Job Description

    Under the supervision of the COP-Chief of Party, the Laboratory Assistant will oversee following duties.

    • In coordination with the COP (Chief of Party) and the molecular biologist, assist activities such as preparation of solutions, buffers, washing, preparation, and sterilization of laboratory material (mostly by autoclave).
    • Assist the reception, organization, and processing of samples from Guapi and Timbiquí in the laboratories of the Entomology group of the Health National Institute, along with the molecular biologist.
    • Assist the molecular biologist in ELISA (adsorption immunoassay technique) and qPCR (real-time polymerase chain reaction) assays for the detection of Plasmodium species in mosquito samples from the study sites, source of blood supply in species of the genus Anopheles and any other assistance required in the laboratory for the development of the project objectives.
    • Assist the project in any administrative task that is required such as: quotation of reagents, laboratory elements, consumables, purchase monitoring and activities required by this area, to accomplish the VectorLink-Colombia project´ objectives.

    Qualification requirements include the following:

    • Professional in biology, Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, or any other related field.
    • One (1) year of relevant professional work experience in fields of Entomology and Molecular Biology.
    • Adherence capacity to applying laboratory protocols or Standardized Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    • Ability to work independently or under supervision, within a team to achieve the quality of products generated and compliance with delivery deadlines.
    • Analytical ability to interpret experimental results.
    • Organizing and planning skills to work in the laboratory.
    • Experience in research groups in Entomology, and public health; desirable.
    • Ability to read and write in English; desirable
