    Job Description

    Under the supervision of the COP-Chief of Party  / Timbiquí Senior Supervisor, the Entomology Assistant will be in charge of following duties.

    • Perform taxonomic identification of Anopheles mosquito species and parity dissections to assess the age of the mosquito population.
    • Carry out susceptibility tests of malaria vectors to insecticides in current use and future candidates and, if resistance is detected, evaluate the intensity.
    • Adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures for these activities and assist as necessary the Senior supervisor in the management of laboratory activities, including insectarium operations.
    • Ensure proper and timely data entry and registration in VectorLink Collect software.
    • Assist with requests for the acquisition of materials related to entomological field activities.
    • Participate in other field activities as needed.
    • Assist the project in any administrative task required such as: quotation of reagents, laboratory elements, consumables, purchase monitoring and activities required by this area, to accomplish the VectorLink-Colombia project´ objectives.

    Qualification requirements include the following:

    • Professional in Biology, Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, or any other related field.
    • One (1) year of relevant professional work experience in fields of Entomology, preferably with experience in vector borne diseases.
    • Ability to work independently or under supervision, within a team to achieve the quality of products generated and compliance with delivery deadlines.
    • Analytical ability to interpret experimental results, organize information and present quantitative and qualitative reports.
    • Proactive, willing to learn and develop new skills.
    • Professional with interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (written and spoken)
    • Organized person with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Availability to work on weekends.
    • Experience in research groups in Entomology, and public health; desirable.
    • Ability to read and write in English; desirable
    • Availability to move to the study area located in Timbiqui (Cauca) and stay there during the project period.
