    Please join us for an online dengue side event to mark the 75th United Nations General Assembly 
    Register for the UNGA Dengue Side Event On the occasion of the 75th UN General Assembly, and to tie in with this year’s theme: “The Future We Want, the UN We Need: Reaffirming our Collective Commitment to Multilateralism”​the International Society for Neglected Tropical Diseases would like to invite you to join a wide range of partners for an online side event and discussions, against the backdrop of the COVID19 pandemic, looking at the global threat of dengue fever and vector-borne diseases, and the need to strengthen global cooperation in outbreak prevention and response:

    – Dr. Sadie Ryan (University of Florida)In 2019, the World Health Organisation listed dengue fever as one of 10 global health priorities for 2019. A global collective of patients, researchers, governments, healthcare professionals and advocates is growing worldwide, with the clear goal of reducing the burden of dengue around the world by devising ambitious action plans and collaborations to contribute to this fight against dengue. ​Despite half the world’s population being at risk, the global burden of dengue remains substantially underestimated with misdiagnosis affecting healthcare systems worldwide. In parallel, the Aedes mosquito which spreads dengue fever and other viruses is invading new habitats and regions at an alarming pace. Improved water and sanitation is essential in control these mosquitoes breeding opportunities. Global and multi-sectoral coordination across the fields of healthcare, vector control, WASH, community engagement and many more is urgently needed and a global movement for a World Dengue Day is gathering pace.
